Kochi has been a hub of commercial activity from time immemorial. With the spread of universal education and the founding of a bunch of high schools in and around Kochi, the need for a college, for pursuing higher studies, was keenly felt here. It was in these circumstances that the erstwhile Municipality of Kochi and the Indian Chamber of Commerce, Kochi, jointly took the lead, sponsored “The Cochin Education Society” and started The Cochin College. Thus, a long cherished wish of the public of Kochi was realized. The Cochin College today stands as a symbol of the hopes and aspirations of the citizens of Kochi.

Activities

  • The primary objective of Student's Vermicompost is to educate students about the process of converting organic waste into nutrient-rich compost using earthworms, promoting sustainable waste management, and enhancing their understanding of environmental stewardship. Additionally, it can foster entrepreneurship and provide a hands-on learning experience in organic farming.
  • A green audit is expected to identify areas of improvement for an organization to reduce its environmental impact, comply with regulations, and potentially save costs. It aims to promote sustainability by assessing resource utilization, waste management, and other environmental factors.
  • The primary objective of an inoculum preparation workshop for a compost unit is to train participants on how to create and utilize microbial inoculums to accelerate the composting process and improve compost quality.
  • The main objectives of a cloth collection drive are to gather gently used or new clothing items to donate to those in need, raise awareness about the needs of underprivileged communities, and promote a sense of social responsibility and compassion within the community. Additionally, it can help reduce textile waste and encourage sustainable practices.
  • The main objectives of an aquaponics system are to simultaneously cultivate plants and aquatic animals in a symbiotic, recirculating system, utilizing fish waste as a natural fertilizer for plants and having the plants filter the water for the fish.
