Auditing of Existing Waste Management Facilities in the State by Bhoomitrasena Clubs, at KKTM GOVT COLLEGE PULLUT
As part of the initiative “Auditing of Existing Waste Management Facilities in the State by Bhoomitrasena Clubs,” a collaborative effort by the Directorate of Environment and Climate Change (DoECC) and the Malinya Muktham Navakeralam Campaign Secretariat under the Local Self-Government Department, Government of Kerala, an audit was conducted at Kandamkulam Material Collection Facility (MCF), Kodungallur on 13th January 2025.
The audit team comprised Antonjo Raison, Haifa, Christien Raphel, and Malavika T. M., all active members of the Bhoomitrasena Club, under the guidance of Soumya K. C., Faculty-in-Charge. The objective of the audit was to assess the efficiency, functionality, and challenges faced by the facility in managing solid waste, with a focus on segregation, storage, and disposal mechanisms.
During the survey, the team examined the waste categorization process, storage infrastructure, and recycling practices at the MCF. It was observed that while the facility had a structured system for collecting and sorting different waste streams, challenges such as irregular waste segregation at the source and limited public awareness persisted. The team also interacted with the staff to understand operational constraints and possible improvements.
The findings of this audit was compiled into a detailed report and shared with Directorate of Environment and Climate Change (DoECC), highlighting recommendations to enhance waste management efficiency. This initiative reinforced the commitment of Bhoomitrasena Clubs in promoting sustainable waste management practices across Kerala.
