Water, Climate and Gender- Inclusive pathways to Sustainability at CMS College Kottayam (Autonomous))
REPORT ON ONE -DAY SEMINAR “WATER, CLIMATE AND GENDER- INCLUSIVE PATHWAYS TO SUSTAINABILITY”
The Bhoomitrasena Club organized a seminar on “Water, Climate and Gender- Inclusive pathways to Sustainability” on 06-02-2026 in association with Dept of Biotechnology & Dept of Botany, CMS College Kottayam(Autonomous) to raise awareness about the importance of water conservation and sustainable water management. The program was sponsored by Directorate of Climate Change and the programme was conductedas a Pre-World Water Day in alignment with the global theme announced by the United Nations for World Water Day 2026.The program was held at Educational theatre, CMS College and had 125 participants including Bhoomithrasenaclub members, students and faculty members.
The seminar commenced with an opening remark by Neena Mariam Jacob, student co-ordinator who briefed the role and activities of Bhoomithrasena club of CMS College. This was followed by welcome address by the Co-ordinator of the Program Ms.Ashalakshmi C N, Asst. Professor, Department of Biotechnology. Thereafter, Prof. Dr. Rogimon P Thomas, Convenor & Co-ordinator of Bhoomithrasena addressed the gathering andhighlighted the relevance of observing World Water Day, focusing on the urgent need to ensure water security for future generations.
The keynote lecture was delivered by Dr. Brilliant Rajan, Associate Professor, Dept.of Environmental Science, St.John’s College, Anchal an invited expert in environmental science, who discussed about climate change and its impact on aquatic ecosystems, current global water crisis and its impact on society.Special attention was given to local water challengesand conveyed the role of community participation in sustainable water governance.The speaker emphasized that water is not only a basic human necessity but also a critical resource for agriculture, industry, biodiversity conservation, and climate resilience.An interactive discussion followed, allowing students to share ideas and ask relevant questions to the speaker.
The seminar also included a short video presentation, where students presented water challenges and the need for sustainable water conservation.The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Abhijith S, student co-ordinator, expressing gratitude to the resource person, faculty members, and students for their active participation. The seminar successfully enhanced awareness about the significance of water sustainability.
Overall, the World Water Day 2026 seminar organized by the Bhoomithrasena Club served as a meaningful platform to reinforce the message that collective action is essential to safeguard water resources for present and future generations.
