International amngrove day at Sir Syed College, Taliparamba


Report on Participation in International Mangrove Day

On the occasion of International Mangrove Day (26th July 2025), ten student members of the Bhoomithrasena Club of ,Sir Syed College Taliparamba  participated in the awareness and conservation activities organized by the Wildlife Trust of India under the Kannur Kandal Project.

The programme aimed to highlight the ecological importance of mangroves in coastal protection, biodiversity conservation, and carbon sequestration. It also addressed the threats posed by habitat destruction, pollution, and unsustainable coastal development.

Programme Highlights

  • Awareness Talks: Experts from the Wildlife Trust of India and Kannur Kandal Project presented interactive sessions on mangrove ecosystems, their unique flora and fauna, and ongoing restoration efforts in the Kannur region.
  • Field Demonstration: Students were taken to a mangrove site to observe species diversity and understand restoration techniques.
  • Community Interaction: Local community members shared their experiences in conserving and benefiting from mangrove habitats.

Outcome

The participation provided students with hands-on exposure to mangrove conservation practices and strengthened their commitment to coastal ecosystem protection. The collaboration with the Wildlife Trust of India offered valuable networking and learning opportunities for future conservation initiatives.
