Lecture on Mathematics in Nature at ST. STEPHEN'S COLLEGE
The Bhoomitra Sena Club organized an insightful lecture on Mathematics in Nature by Capt. Jais Kurian, Assistant Professor from the Mathematics Department. The session explored the fascinating presence of mathematical patterns in the natural world, from the Fibonacci sequence in sunflowers and pinecones to the symmetry in snowflakes and honeycombs. Capt. Jais Kurian illustrated how mathematical principles govern natural phenomena, such as fractals in tree branching, the golden ratio in seashells, and geometric patterns in animal markings. The lecture captivated students by bridging theoretical mathematics with real-world applications, fostering a deeper appreciation for the subject. The session not only enriched students’ understanding of nature’s inherent mathematical order but also inspired them to see mathematics as a fundamental part of the environment around them.
