SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES AT GLOBAL EXPO BY ST. TERESA’S COLLEGE (AUTONOMOUS), ERNAKULAM at St. Teresa's College (Autonomous), Ernakulam
As part of the vibrant and impactful Global Expo conducted at St. Teresa’s College, Ernakulam, on 4th and 5th February 2025, the Bhoomitrasena Club (BMC) set up an engaging and informative stall showcasing eco-friendly alternatives. This initiative was in line with the club’s vision of promoting sustainable practices, environmental consciousness, and student-led innovation.
The BMC stall was designed to highlight alternatives to plastic and single-use materials, and featured a variety of upcycled and biodegradable products created through student projects and collective initiatives such as STEP (Society of Teresians for Environment Protection) and BhuME Women’s Collective. Visitors to the stall had the opportunity to interact with students and understand the practical applications of sustainability in daily life.
Students in Charge of the BMC Stall, Ms. Angel Jisha E S, II DC, Department of Economics, and Ms. Assin Maria Jose, II DC, Department of Psychology, took the lead in curating and presenting the exhibits, explaining the environmental impact of various everyday products, and suggesting greener alternatives. Their enthusiasm and clarity in communicating sustainable solutions were appreciated by attendees, including faculty, students from other institutions, and external guests.
The stall successfully:
· Raised awareness about eco-conscious consumer habits.
· Promoted the plastic-free campus initiatives.
· Encouraged peers to engage in green entrepreneurship.
· Strengthened the visibility of BMC’s long-standing environmental mission.
The Global Expo served as a meaningful platform for the Bhoomitrasena Club to reiterate its commitment to environmental stewardship and student-driven change. The participation of BMC reflects the college’s broader goal of integrating sustainability into academic and extension activities.
