One Day Nature Camp at Kadalundi Vallikkunnu Community Reserve at Korambayil Ahamed Haji Memorial Unity Women's College, Manjeri
The Bhoomithrasena Club in association with the NSS Units of KAHM Unity Women’s College, Manjeri, organized a One Day Nature Camp at Kadalundi Vallikkunnu Community Reserve on October 2, 2024. The programme witnessed the enthusiastic participation of 98 volunteers and aimed to enhance environmental awareness and strengthen students’ connection with nature. The camp provided a valuable platform for experiential learning, enabling participants to explore the rich biodiversity of the region and reflect on their role in conservation.
The camp commenced in the morning with a boat trip through the bird sanctuary area of the reserve, offering students an opportunity to observe diverse avian species and other wildlife in their natural habitat. Volunteers also explored the mangrove ecosystem and learned about its ecological importance in biodiversity conservation, shoreline protection, and climate change mitigation. Local experts guided the students, sharing insights into the environmental challenges faced by the ecosystem, including pollution and habitat degradation.
The programme was coordinated by Dr. Faseela P, Club coordinator and NSS PO and Mr. Haris U, NSS PO along with student Secretaries Fathima Hashim and Hana Fathima. The nature camp served as a meaningful extension of the Club initiatives, reinforcing the values of environmental stewardship, community service, and sustainable living. Overall, the experience enriched the participants’ understanding of conservation and inspired them to take proactive roles in protecting natural ecosystems.
