As part of their commitment to environmental conservation and civic responsibility, the Bhoomitra Sena Club and NSS Unit of Deva Matha College, Kuravilangad, jointly organized an Awareness Rally on 30th September 2024. The event aimed to sensitize the public about environmental cleanliness and the importance of maintaining hygienic public spaces.
The rally was formally flagged off by Smt. Mini Mathai, a respected President of the Kuravilangad Grama Panchayath, from the college campus. In her inaugural address, Smt. Mathai lauded the efforts of the student community and emphasized the critical role youth play in building a cleaner and greener society.
More than 250 enthusiastic student volunteers from various departments of the college participated in the rally. The students marched from the college campus to the Kuravilangad Panchayath Bus Stand, holding placards, banners, and chanting slogans focused on environmental protection, cleanliness, and sustainable living. The rally garnered attention from the public and was well-received by the local community, many of whom expressed their support and appreciation.
Upon reaching the bus stand, the volunteers took the initiative a step further by engaging in a cleanliness drive. The students, guided by faculty coordinators and local authorities, cleaned public spaces in and around the bus stand area. This included the removal of litter, weeding of roadside areas, and proper disposal of non-biodegradable waste. The activity served as a live demonstration of civic responsibility and environmental stewardship.
The rally and subsequent cleaning initiative reflected the commitment of Deva Matha College’s student community to environmental awareness and public service. The event also fostered a sense of unity and purpose among students and encouraged greater participation in similar activities in the future.
The program concluded with a brief reflection session where volunteers shared their experiences and reaffirmed their pledge to continue working toward a cleaner and healthier environment.
