Visit to Kumbalangi Wetland at Maharaja's College
As part of the World Wetlands Day 2026 celebrations, the Bhoomithrasena Club organized an educational field visit to the wetlands of Kumbalangi to create awareness about the ecological importance of wetlands, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable wetland management. The 2026 theme, "Wetlands and Traditional Knowledge: Celebrating Cultural Heritage," highlighted the role of local communities and traditional practices in wetland conservation.
Students observed the rich biodiversity of the Kumbalangi wetlands, including mangroves, fish, crabs, molluscs, and various bird species. The visit provided insights into the relationship between local communities and wetland ecosystems and emphasized the importance of traditional knowledge in maintaining ecological balance. Wetlands serve as vital habitats for wildlife and contribute significantly to climate regulation and livelihood support.
