A green initiative to rejuvenate mother nature at Mangalavanam bird sanctuary at St Pauls College, Kalamassery


On 12th February 2025, Bhoomithrasena Club ,St.Pauls College,Kalamassery visited Mangalavam bird sanctuary,Kochi and organized an plastic cleaning drive in association with Department of Chemistry. This initiative aimed to raise awareness about plastic pollution and actively engage in cleaning efforts to preserve the sanctuary's ecosystem.The program commenced with an informative session on the detrimental effects of plastic pollution, particularly focusing on its impact on urban green spaces like Mangalavanam. Students and faculty interacted with visitors, distributing educational materials and discussing sustainable alternatives to single-use plastics. The campaign emphasized the importance of individual responsibility in reducing plastic waste and protecting natural habitats. Following the awareness session, participants engaged in a hands-on cleanup activity within the sanctuary premises. Equipped with gloves and biodegradable collection bags, the team collected plastic waste and other non-biodegradable materials scattered around the area. This effort not only improved the cleanliness of the sanctuary but also served as a practical demonstration of environmental stewardship. The visit to Mangalavanam Bird Sanctuary was a successful blend of education, action, and community involvement. The participants commitment to environmental awareness and conservation was evident through the proactive participation of students and faculty. Such initiatives are vital in cultivating environmentally conscious citizens and preserving natural ecosystems for future generations.
