National Semnar on "Biodiversity for a Sustainable Future" at Alphonsa College Pala
The National Seminar on “Biodiversity for a Sustainable Future” was held on 26 and 27 September 2024 at Alphonsa College, Pala. About 112 participants were registered. The event brought together experts, researchers, and students to discuss the critical role of biodiversity in ensuring a sustainable future. The seminar featured keynote addresses, technical sessions, and oral and poster presentations, providing a platform for knowledge exchange and collaborative discussions on various aspects of biodiversity and sustainability.
The seminar commenced with a plenary talk by Dr. Abhilash R., titled “Climate Emergency and the Converging Crises of Our Times,” setting the tone for the discussions. This was followed by invited talks from Dr. Sylas V.P. on “Invasive Species” and Dr. Dhanya Bhaskar on “Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services.” Scholars presented their research through oral and poster presentations, with sessions chaired by Dr. Sylas V.P.
On the second day, the seminar began with an invited talk by Prof. P. J. John on “Microplastic Pollution and Fish Diversity.” Further paper presentations were conducted, followed by an invited talk by Dr. Gigi K. Joseph on “Biodiversity Conservation through People's Participation.” The seminar concluded with a valedictory session, emphasizing the importance of biodiversity conservation and the need for collaborative efforts to ensure a sustainable future.
