Comparison of a natural and man-made mangrove forest -Visit to Thaneervanam and Ayiramthengu mangrove forest at M.S.M College, Kayamkulam


A visit to Thaneervanam an artificial man made mangrove forest, and Ayiramthengu mangrove forest 


Bhoomithrasena club along with Science club, Environmental activity club and Department of Zoology organised a one day field visit to Thaneervanam a an artificial man made mangrove forest, and Ayiramthengu mangrove forest on February 2025. 


Thaneervanam was set on two acres of land in Puthupally near Kayamkulam backwaters. The efforts made by the man in setting this mangrove forest was really appreciated. The students found that place very eco-friendly full of calmness and coolness even in the hot summer. Sir has taken class on the significance and maintenance of Thaneervanam and the fish biota it holds.


Students visited the natural mangrove forest of Ayiramthengu, understood various types of mangroove plants and animals and their ecological importance. This trip enabled the students to compare a natural and man-made ecosystem and the flora and fauna they support
