Waste fed fish culture at M.S.M College, Kayamkulam


Waste fed fish culture an innovative and sustainable way of food waste management in our campus was done by Alumni association of Zoology and Bhoomithrasena club MSM College 


Alumni association of Post Graduate Department of Zoology has set a fish tank on the campus. Bhoomithrasena club has introduced African catfish (Malasian wala) to the tank which fed on the food waste especially from the canteen and from the students there by eliminating the dumbing of organic waste on the campus. Fish on attaining considerable size can be used as food. Thus in an ecosustainable manner the waste is eliminated. On 4.01.2025 this waste treatment tank was inaugurated by Principal by introducing the fishes. The education secretary Dr. S.Amina and Dr.Vinod P Alumni Association Zoology Executive Comittee member along with Bhoomithrasena club members participated in the program. Bhoomithrasena club members were assigned for properly maintaining the fish tank for ensuring food waste removal through out the academic year.
