Data collection for the preparation of People's Biodiversity Register at PROVIDENCE WOMEN'S COLLEGE

The data collection for the preparation of the People’s Biodiversity Register (PBR) was successfully completed in Narikkuni and Olavanna Grama Panchayaths under the Kozhikode Block Panchayath. The initiative, conducted from December 2024 to February 2025, aimed to document local biological resources and traditional ecological knowledge through a participatory approach.

With active involvement from local communities, students, biodiversity enthusiasts, and the Biodiversity Management Committees (BMCs), detailed information was gathered on flora, fauna, agricultural biodiversity, and culturally significant species. Traditional knowledge related to the sustainable use of these resources was also recorded. Our students contributed by identifying and naming plants for the register

The programme not only contributed valuable data for biodiversity planning and conservation but also created greater environmental awareness among community members. The completed registers will serve as vital tools for local-level biodiversity governance and sustainable development planning.
