Hands on Training in Compost Making at Payyanur College
On January 6, 2026, the members of Bhoomitrasena and the PG Department of
Botany came together to create compost using spent mushroom substrate and dry
leaves from the herbal garden, with soil as an inoculum. This activity was
conducted as a practical component of the Value-Added Course on "Compost
Making" offered by the Botany Department, specifically for the second-year
students of the four-year undergraduate program. The initiative not only provided
hands-on experience in composting but also addressed the management of
mushroom farm waste, converting spent mushroom substrate into a valuable
resource. This exercise exemplified the department's commitment to sustainable
practices and waste management.
