Mangrove Restoration Programme at Payyanur College

On January 13, 2026, Bhoomitra Sena Club and the Botany Department of

Payyanur College, in association with the Social Forestry Wing of the Forest

Department, participated in a mangrove restoration program at Kunhimangalam.

The program was held at Thamarankulangara Poruni Vayal, covering

approximately 2.5 acres of mangrove land that was previously destroyed by a

private party. This initiative was part of an order issued by the Kerala High Court

to restore the mangrove ecosystem, which is crucial for maintaining biodiversity

and preventing floods. The program was inaugurated by Social Forestry ACF

Rajeevan M, with P P Rajan coordinating the event. Dr. Ratheesh Narayanan,

Head of the Botany Department, and Dr. Deepamol P C, Coordinator of Bhoomitra

Sena, also participated in the program .
