Wild Orchid Restoration Project at MARYMATHA ARTS AND SCIENCE COLLEGE, MANANTHAVADY
On 22 May, in observance of the International Day for Biological Diversity, the Bhoomithrasena Club of Mary Matha Arts & Science College, in association with the Department of Zoology, organized a rare and field-oriented forest restoration programme at Bavali Forest. The initiative focused on rescuing wild orchids that had fallen along with cut teak trees during efforts to reinstate the natural forest ecosystem.
During the programme, students and faculty members carefully collected orchids from the fallen teak trees and replanted them on suitable native trees within the natural forest area. Around 400 rare wild orchid plants were rescued and reinstated in the forest habitat, helping conserve valuable plant diversity and support ecological restoration.
The programme was coordinated and led by Dr. Sanu V. F., Assistant Professor and Faculty in Charge of the Bhoomithrasena Club.
