AN OVERVIEW OF “THE DIVERSITY AND NATURAL HISTORY OF FRESH WATER FISHES” at MES KEVEEYAM COLLEGE VALANCHERY


The talk on the topic "The Diversity & Natural History of Fresh water fishes" was conducted by Dr. C P Shaji, Ichthyologist and Taxonomist and the former Principal Scientific Officer at Kerala State Biodiversity Board.

 A discussion on the historical perspectives about the water bodies and fishes was followed by the experience of the resource person in field studies, The club members were given classes on recording of the details for the taxonomic studies of the fishes. The preservation techniques were also shown.

Sir also showed the pictures of the threats faced by biodiversity, especially the fish populations across fresh water bodies in Kerala.

The session was followed by interaction where the participants cleared their doubts regarding the collection and identification procedures followed for fresh water fishes. Formal vote of thanks was delivered by Manjusha K T, Assistant Professor in Zoology Department, MES Keveeyam College.
