The Departments of Botany and Biotechnology, in association with the Bhoomithrasena Club, CMS College Kottayam, organized a flower arrangement workshop titled “Beyond the Petals – Eco-Inspired Traditions in Blooms.” The programme was conducted with the objective of familiarizing students with various flowers, foliages, and eco-friendly materials, as well as the tools required for traditional flower arrangement.
A total of 66 students from the Departments of Botany and Biotechnology actively participated in the workshop. The session was led by Dr. Smitha S, Assistant Professor, Department of Biotechnology, CMS College Kottayam, who served as the resource person.
Dr. Smitha began the session by explaining the different types of flowers and foliages commonly used in flower arrangements, along with the essential materials and tools. She then demonstrated various styles of bouquet arrangements, including a single rose bouquet, a massive bouquet, and a round table-top arrangement. Each demonstration was explained step by step, highlighting the basic design principles and techniques involved in flower arrangement.
Following the demonstration, students were given the opportunity to create their own flower arrangements using the techniques they had learned. This hands-on session encouraged creativity, active participation, and practical skill development among the students.
